Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 20, 2015) – Jason Sides had a solid outing last weekend during the 32nd annual Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway.
Sides opened the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series doubleheader on Friday by qualifying 10th quickest out of more than 50 competitors. He then advanced from fourth to third place during a heat race to lock himself into the 20th starting position for the Knight Before the Kings Royal main event.
“We had a good run there,” he said. “I think we could rotate the bottom better than everybody else in the feature. We could get on the bottom and get underneath guys. Having a good run gave us some good confidence going into the next night.”
Sides maneuvered from 20th to a ninth-place result, which garnered the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars and created momentum leading into Saturday’s $50,000-to-win finale.
“The second night I qualified too well,” he said. “You’d almost like to be a little slower to start on the front row of a heat race.”
Sides timed in 16th quickest during qualifying, which lined him up on the inside of the second row of a heat race. Unfortunately, a massive storm hit the area before the heat races could be contended. That created a delay of more than four hours and a fast track once racing resumed.
“I got hung on the bottom in the grease to start the heat race,” he said. “I couldn’t move very good and we fell to fifth place.”
That relegated him to the B Main, where he started on the outside of the fifth row.
“It was really muddy being behind all those cars,” he said. “I lost a couple of spots on the start and then got going. It was just a circumstance of the weather.”
Sides finished eighth in the consolation race to miss a transfer into the main event.
He is slated to compete this Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., for the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup, Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., for the Summer Nationals and Sunday at Lebanon Valley Speedway in West Lebanon, N.Y., with the World of Outlaws as the ‘Month of Money’ is underway.
“It’s going to be good this whole month through the Knoxville Nationals,” he said. “I think it will turn out nice.”
