Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (July 15, 2015) – Brandon Hanks made a late decision last week to test a new setup and it worked.

Hanks and the David Smith Racing team tackled Saturday’s event at I-30 Speedway, where they found some positive changes that helped the sprint car.

“We decided last Thursday or Friday we wanted to go racing so we picked the weekly show at I-30 to play with the car setup,” he said. “It was a good thing we did go because we found some stuff. We got faster and it showed.”

Hanks quickly maneuvered into the lead during a heat race after starting fourth. The heat race win was his third of the season and it lined him up on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“I was right there on the leader’s back bumper for the first few laps,” he said. “We were chomping at him. Then I caught the tractor tire in turn three trying to get down as low as I could. The closer you were to the bottom the better grip you had. It was a dumb mistake on my part.”

Hanks sustained damage to the front end of his race car, which veered into the infield. He was unable to continue the race and was credited with a 20th-place result.

“I probably should have been more patient,” he said. “We were getting a lot of forward drive and still had the car to get through the corner really good. I’m glad we went because of what we found. At the same time it’s embarrassing when you hit a tractor tire.”

Hanks will venture to Oklahoma this weekend for ASCS Red River Region races on Friday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa and Saturday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton.
