Inside Line Promotions – HARTFORD, Ohio (July 14, 2015) – Dale Blaney registered his 22nd top-five finish of the season last Saturday during the Lou Blaney Memorial, which is a marquee UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions event at Sharon Speedway that honors his father.
“It turned out to be a really nice day and it was a great race,” Blaney said. “I was happy with the turnout for my dad’s race. That part of it was great. Racing-wise was good. It was just really tough to pass. Track position was really important.”
Blaney opened the event by qualifying seventh quickest and second in his group. That lined the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed CH Motorsports team up on the inside of the second row for a heat race, which Blaney picked up a position in to finish second.
“We didn’t qualify the best, but we made it through the heat race to make the dash,” he said. “Then we drew a seven out of 10 and that was one of the telling tales. We made it to sixth in the dash, but it was hard to pass.”
The dash result started Blaney on the outside of the third row for the main event.
“We had a restart on Lap 6 and I was running fifth,” he said. “Instead of gaining a spot I tried to run the top and I actually lost a spot. That probably hurt me as much as anything. I just felt like I lost a chance at an opportunity on that first restart.”
Blaney battled for a top five throughout the feature and spent the last several laps in a four-car clash for the lead and spots on the podium.
“I got going the last half of the race,” he said. “I got rolling pretty good. I got by Caleb (Helms) in turn four with about four laps to go, but I knew he had a run on me getting back into turn one. All four of us were right there. I had the best seat in the house to watch the race.”
Blaney ended with a fourth-place result, which increased his lead in the All Star championship standings to 155 points.
The Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored team will tackle a trio of World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series races this week, starting on Thursday at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio, for the Brad Doty Classic, before races on Friday and Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, for the 32nd annual Kings Royal.
“We’re really positive,” Blaney said. “I’ve won the Doty at Limaland. I’ve won the Knight Before the Kings Royal and the Kings Royal. I know we can run well and I know we’re gonna run well. It’s a matter of putting yourselves in position through qualifying.”
