Inside Line Promotions – HARTFORD, Ohio (July 14, 2015) – Caleb Helms scored his first UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions podium finish in nearly two years last Saturday during the Lou Blaney Memorial at Sharon Speedway.
Helms put together what he deemed his most complete night of the season to finish third, which was his first trip to the podium during All Star competition since July 23, 2013.
“I think we’re getting where we expect to be,” he said. “We’re finally getting in our groove and figuring out where this car needs to be. It’s been like a totally different race car the last couple of weeks. I want to give a special thanks to my dad, grandpa, Matt and Cody for their hard work.”
The event began with Helms qualifying 13th quickest, which was the fastest in his group. He then maneuvered from fourth to second place during a heat race to earn a spot in the dash, where Helms advanced from sixth to fifth place.
“We started out well and didn’t change much all night,” he said. “We did some fine tuning as the track got slicker. We got it close and didn’t have to change much all night. It was a pretty awesome car.”
Helms spent the entire feature battling within the top five before a couple of passes put him in position for a podium. He then held off All Star points leader Dale Blaney in the closing laps to record his second top five of the season.
“It was the most complete night we’ve had this year,” he said. “That’s where we’ve been trying to get to, putting entire nights together. If we can keep doing that we’re going to start winning races.”
Helms is set to compete this Thursday at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio, for the Brad Doty Classic, and Friday and Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, for the 32nd annual Kings Royal with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.
“We’ve just got to go in, do our job and believe we can do well,” he said. “We’re a lot more confident right now.”
