Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (July 13, 2015) – Trey Starks captured his 15th top five of the season last Saturday during Midseason Championship Night at Grays Harbor Raceway.
“We set quick time out of the cars that were available,” he said. “The track was super fast. I think we were only two tenths off the track record.”
The top four in championship points competed in a scramble to line up the first two rows of the main event. Qualifying results dictated the remainder of the starting lineup, putting Starks on the inside of the third row.
“We didn’t get track time between qualifying and the main,” he said. “You’re kinda guessing because you don’t have a heat race in between like usual.
“On the first lap we got hit with a big rock down the right side of the car. It broke the front of the nose wing. That changes the attitude of the car. It was a little bit different. I had to get used to not having a nose wing.”
Starks managed to climb into third place during the opening laps before he took over the runner-up position on Lap 7.
“The track got wide and racy,” he said. “(Polesitter) Henry Van Dam got out so far in the first couple of laps and then lapped traffic got tough in the middle of the race. We had a good car, but Henry drove a great race.”
Starks was unable to reel Van Dam in as he settled for a second-place finish.
Starks is slated to take this weekend off before returning to competition July 24-25 at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., for the Bob’s Burgers & Brew Summer Nationals.
