Inside Line Promotions – WATSONVILLE, Calif. (July 13, 2015) – Last weekend’s busy schedule didn’t pan out as planned for Chase Johnson, who was only able to compete on Friday at Ocean Speedway with the Civil War Sprint Car Series.

“Nothing really went as planned or as we hoped,” he said. “Miscommunication kept us from racing micro sprint events at Dixon Speedway on Wednesday and Delta Speedway on Thursday. Then we ran into more bad luck on Friday.”

Johnson piloted his family owned sprint car to a 23rd-place qualifying effort, which lined him up sixth for a heat race at Ocean Speedway.

“That night was pretty wild,” he said. “It started off good because we drew an early number for qualifying. The track was pretty wet early and we didn’t get a good time. Then in the heat race we had problem after problem.

“It ran great the first three laps and then the throttle linkage came off. The throttle was getting stuck and going down to the floor. I had to pull it off the floor with my foot. I managed to roll around a couple of laps like that. We ended up having a caution and we went to the work area and got it fixed. I think we passed two cars after the restart and it happened again. I just hung on to finish the race.”

Johnson placed sixth in a heat race, which relegated him to the seventh starting position in the B Main.

“In the B Main the car was absolutely perfect,” he said. “Then I noticed we were slowly losing power. We were getting passed and I was scratching my head. It was getting slower and slower each lap. On the white flag lap coming down the backstretch the car just gave up and lost all of its power.”

Johnson ended ninth in the consolation race. The team hopes to fix the damage and get back on the track by the end of this season.

The weekend was scheduled to wrap up on Saturday in a Shawn and Cyndi Thomas owned sprint car at Ocean Speedway with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series, but the team’s primary engine wasn’t available.

“The motor we hurt at Calistoga didn’t get back together,” he said. “It hurt the heads so that caused a little bit of a delay. We do have a new motor that will be in for Placerville this weekend.”

Johnson is slated to compete this Saturday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif., with the King of the West.
