[b BURBANK, CA – (10-9-09)-] Throughout her racing career Penngrove native Alissa Geving has drawn a great deal of media attention as she advanced in the sport of the dirt track racing to become the youngest female driver in the nation to win two winged sprint car titles. Now, Geving’s success and personality will reach the likes of late night talk show television as a featured guest on NBC’s “Last Call with Carson Daly.”
Now in its ninth season, NBC's "Last Call with Carson Daly" breaks out of the traditional talk show mode by introducing a gritty and innovative documentary style format to late-night television. Host Carson Daly gives audiences a unique perspective -- unlike any other late-night show by getting out of the studio and taking the show on location each night bringing the viewer along on the journey.
The Last Call with Carson Daly show is a trendsetter when it comes to young talent whether it is that of the sports market or the music and entertainment industry. Geving was invited to appear on the show after NBC Representatives were following recent media coverage of her second racing championship and her recent announcement as a candidate for the NASCAR Drive for Diversity. One evening two weeks ago an unexpected email and a phone call to Geving’s Public Relations representative Bill Sullivan put NBC in contact with her and the show was on the road immediately.
“I was pretty shocked when I got the news,” said Geving. “When Bill first told me I was going on the Carson Daly show I thought he was just messing with me. When I realized it was for real I immediately got excited and then very nervous at the same time.”
Following the contact from NBC, racing footage was put together from the past season and the recent Fall National at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico by veteran videographer Mike Doyle. Doyle was quick to get to work to assemble the race films and connect with NBC affliates to provide a great deal of needed footage to be combined with Geving’s interview that took place at NBC Studios today, Friday, October 9.
“Mike Doyle was absolutely a dedicated team player in this deal and deserves credit for he has done,” said Sullivan. “All of us in the industry are in it because we have a passion for the sport and welcome any publicity it receives. This opportunity is not only great for Alissa, its great for Northern California sprint car racing and without Mike Doyle’s hard work it would not have come together. He’s a true professional.”
Following class on Friday morning, Geving flew to Burbank for the taping of the interview and returned home late Friday evening to resume her studies before she prepares for next week’s trip. The experience was one Geving will long remember but is likely just the first of many. She is also scheduled to be the featured subject in an upcoming edition of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat and the Orion Newspaper in Chico.
“Today’s interview was pretty different and it was a lot of fun,” said Geving. “They did all the shoot outdoors at NBC which was very cool and upbeat. It was a great experience for me and its good for racing to get the coverage.”
Geving’s appearance is scheduled to air Thursday, October 15th on NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly. The show airs at 1:35 Pacific Time following late night with Jimmy Fallon. Additional information regarding the show and air times can be found at http://www.nbc.com/Last_Call_with_Carson_Daly.
Following her trip to Burbank, Geving will begin a busy week as she will be traveling to North Carolina to participate in the 2009 Drive for Diversity Testing & Evaluation Combine presented by Sunoco. The event is scheduled to be held October 18-20.
The Drive for Diversity Testing & Evaluation Combine brings together 25 of the country’s top minority and female drivers for two days of on and off track competition. Drivers invited to the Combine are there to showcase their skills in front of NASCAR officials, team owners and industry media in an effort to earn a ride with a team in either the NASCAR Camping World Series
