Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (July 12, 2015) – Henry Van Dam swept Midseason Championship Night at Grays Harbor Raceway on Saturday.
It marked the third victory of the season for Van Dam, who entered the night as the points leader at the 3/8-mile oval. That locked him into the scramble, which included the top four in points during a six-lap race to decide the lineup of the first two rows for the main event.
“We had rain until about 5:30 so the track was really fast,” he said. “I got a good start during the scramble. I was able to capitalize on clean air and pull away.”
Van Dam led the distance of the scramble to garner the pole position for the feature.
“The track was really narrow for the scramble and I thought it’d stay that way for the feature, but it did widen out,” he said. “It did throw us a little bit. We were still able to learn. We were trying things from hot laps on and every time you hit the track you want to learn. Last night was a night we were able to do that. We weren’t necessarily experimenting as trying things to get the balance better, more fine-tuning stuff.”
The changes were effective as once again Van Dam powered into the lead as the green flag waved to start the main event.
“We got a good start and I went to the top right away,” he said. “I knew if I could get the top working it gave me options to go to the top or bottom. The feature went green to checkered. You really didn’t know where to be on the track. We were getting through lapped cars fairly decent so we kept doing what we were doing. It was a pretty good night. There wasn’t a lot of excitement in it, but sometimes you need those nights.”
It marked the third straight month Van Dam has visited Victory Lane at Grays Harbor Raceway.
“It’s definitely a work in progress,” he said. “The guys have been working so hard the last month to get things where they are. It’s nice to have results to show where you’re efforts are. Hopefully it’s something we continue to build off.
“I want to give a special thanks to Factory Kahne for coming to the race and helping me throughout the night as well as all of my sponsors for their support.”
Van Dam will take the next two weekends off before returning to action on Aug. 1 at Grays Harbor Raceway.
