It was a bit of a struggle for Jerrod Hull and the Heartland Trailer Manufacturing #12 team last Saturday night. He would checker seventh with the MOWA series at the Tri-State Speedway near Haubstadt, Indiana, a track that he has had a lot of success at over the years. The team’s next event with MOWA will be July 10 at the Lincoln Speedway in Illinois.
The draw was not good for the Sikeston, Missouri driver. He would start tenth in his heat race. “We were able to get around a couple of cars early, and then a couple crashed out,” says Jerrod. “We ended up running fifth. We were right there on fourth. We got under him a couple times, we just couldn’t make it happen.”
Jerrod would start eighth in the feature. “We just weren’t really good from the get-go,” he says. “We didn’t have any drive off the corners and we were struggling a little bit. I was really playing defense the whole race. A car would get around me, then a car would fall out. We ended up eighth, but officially we were seventh after someone got disqualified.”
This car has not been the same since Jerrod was leading the FVP National Sprint League show in Farmington, Missouri and tagged a lapped car. “I’m not sure what the issue is,” he says. “That car was so fast the first two nights out. Since we got into the lapped car at Farmington…we may have done something to the frame, I’m not sure.”
The team has gone through the car a few times since then. “We went through the shocks and everything,” says Jerrod. “We’ve gone through a lot of things that we thought may be the problem the last few weeks. We were hoping, but the car has reacted the same way the last three races.”
Jerrod is hoping another car will be the recipe for the next time out. “We’re putting one of our other Maxims back together,” he says. “It’s actually one that Scott (Bonar) fixed. I’m looking forward to trying it. We’re taking this weekend off, and we’ll be back at Lincoln in a couple weeks.”
