Covington Motorsports- GLENPOOL, OK. (July1, 2015) Matt Covington took on the unique Skagit Speedway for the first time in his career last Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for the Dirt Cup with the ASCS National Tour.
On Thursday night, Matt won his heat but was collected late in the feature to come home 17th.
Covington would find himself starting 8th in his heat on Friday night resulting in a 7th place finish after a deep heat draw. Matt would be forced to the back of the B-main where he would mount a charge but come up short in the 5th position and unfortunately not make the main.
Saturday’s field would be determined with combined points from Thursday and Friday night’s action. With the bad luck and results of Friday, Covington’s point total was not strong enough to lock into the $15,000 to win feature.
Covington would have to make it out of the B-main on Saturday to have a shot at the main. Matt would take care of the first challenge of the night and come home 2nd in his B to transfer into the Dirt Cup finale A-main.
Covington's feature effort would be cut short after getting running over from behind when the field checked up early in the race to avoid a big wreck and pile up ahead. The damaged mount would force Matt pit side to close out the weekend.
“This past weekend was a new experience for me,” stated Covington. “I had never been to Skagit and it is very unique and takes some getting used to. We had speed all weekend but where just not able to catch any breaks and got caught up in a couple small wrecks that wasn’t our fault and just in the wrong place at wrong time deal. I honestly think if a couple of small things would of went different we could of been right there battling in the top-ten all three nights cause we had a great car and handle on the place for our first time there. Skagit is over and past us now and time for us to focus on this weekend. We flew a longtime friend Ryan Beechler in this week to join the team. He has been successful everywhere he has been and I am excited to see what he can bring to our team. I am confident and optimistic that he and I can get rolling pretty quick. We will be working hard and see if we can’t get us a win or at least a solid top-5 National finish or two and back on track while up north before we head into Knoxville next month.”
