Inside Line Promotions – PARK CITY, Kan. (July 1, 2015) – Jack Dover continued his hot streak last weekend with a pair of runner-up results.
Dover, who entered the weekend with a career-best five-race winning streak, charged from 11th to post second-place finishes on Friday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., and Sunday at 81 Speedway.
“I consider it almost like winning,” he said. “When you can start that far back in the field at those tracks where it’s hard to make up ground and coming up to second, I’m really pleased with it.”
The weekend began on Friday with the Carpetland Nebraska 360 Sprints at I-80 Speedway, where Dover finished fourth in a heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the sixth row for the 25-lap main event.
“I passed a couple of cars in the beginning,” he said. “About halfway through I saw I was fourth or fifth on the board. I looked up a couple of laps later and saw I was in second. Jonathan Cornell was about a straightaway ahead and I made that up at the end, but fell about one lap short. We were a car length away. We needed a yellow or one more lap.”
Dover returned to action on Sunday at 81 Speedway, where he drove a sprint car for Gary Swenson during the NCRA event. Dover powered from ninth to fifth place during a heat race, which put him 11th in overall points and earned the 11th starting position for the 25-lap feature.
“I passed a couple of cars on the bottom at the beginning,” he said. “Then I got held up by some cars and went to try the top. I realized I was better up there. About halfway I started running up top and just started passing cars. We needed a yellow with about two laps to go or we needed one more lap.”
Once again, Dover finished within striking distance of the leader. It marked his eighth podium finish in the last nine races.
He will return to action with ASCS Warrior Region events this Thursday at Double X Speedway in California, Mo., Friday at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Mo., Saturday at Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo., and Sunday at Double X Speedway.
