After a long streak of bad weather and race cancellations followed by ignition issues at Angell Park last week with the IRA, Scotty Thiel finally broke his bad luck streak with a feature win at Manitowoc Speedway Friday night in the Jeff Ludwig Racing MSA 360 sprint car. A last minute decision to put Scotty in the car Friday paid off as he drove away from the field and picked up win number one of the season. Scotty then followed up that great performance on Saturday as he raced with the World of Outlaws at Beaver Dam Raceway where he drove his way up to a 14th place finish.
Thiel received a phone call late Wednesday night asking if he would be interested in driving one of his fellow friends 360 sprint car Friday night at Manitowoc Speedway. After negotiating how this would all work out, Scotty agreed to step back into his old reigns. After drawing a 27 pill and starting third in the heat race event, Scotty battled with the top spot early on but fell back after losing his momentum after trying to take over the lead. He fell back to the third position and would finish there as the checkered flag flew. Luckily, with the invert draw, Scotty would start on the pole of the 25 lap A-main event. The crew scrambled to get the car prepared and put Thiel in contention of winning the main. The green flag flew and Scotty began his charge. He led the way for the first 12 laps but then a caution flag flew for a car spinning in turn two. The field lined back up and Scotty bobbled on his next restart and gave a challenge for the second and third place cars. He lost the lead going out of turn two which led for an exciting race as Scotty and the leader Wayne Modjeski put on show for the fans, sliding each other back and forth for three laps straight. Scotty regrouped himself going down the backstretch and set up the pass for the lead going into turn one. After that, he never looked back and began to charge away from the field. After 25 laps were complete, Scotty crossed the line and picked up his first win of the 2015 season, 19th career win overall and the team’s first ever Sprint Car A-main victory! “Man, this one feels pretty good! I have been getting frustrated with the bad luck we’ve had so far this year. Our best run in the 410 has been 4th and that just isn’t good enough. Jeff (Ludwig) gave me a call Wednesday and said come and take the car to Manitowoc. I pondered the thought but figured it would be a good idea to get some seat time especially since I am promoting the 410 show here next week. Well, it turned out to be pretty beneficial as we got the WIN! I cannot be more proud of my guys tonight. They worked their tails off to give me a car that was capable of winning. It feels good for myself but for the entire Jeff Ludwig Racing team as I was able to give them their first win ever in a sprint car.” Stated an excited Thiel after the event.
The next day, Scotty and the Scott Thiel Motorsports team traveled south to Beaver Dam Raceway for the World of Outlaws event. This was Scotty’s second appearance with the Outlaws in 2015. He drew a 37 pill which set him to go out 17th in qualifying. After having a slight mist in the engine, the team discovered a loose air box which caused the engine mishap and the reason for an 18th quick qualifying run. That placed Thiel to start sixth in the heat race event. The field took the green and Scotty charged his way into the fifth spot right away in turn one. The race track was fast early on and not much passing occurred. Scotty maintained the fifth spot for all ten laps and would transfer into the nights 40 lap A-main event. The crew went to work to make changes for the main as Scotty made note of an ill handling car. He started the 40 lap main event in the 18th position. The field went four wide to salute the fans and prepared to take the green flag. Coming out of turn four, the green flag flew. Scotty charged up to the top side of the track and made a pass that moved him up several positions. He battled his way forward for the first 15 laps and found himself almost to the top ten. With the half way to go sign coming out, the lead cars began to lap the back half of the field. They reached Scotty and he moved down to the bottom of the track. He moved back up into his groove after three laps but lost his momentum on reaching the top ten. A yellow came out on lap 36 which allowed the field to get bunched back up. After going green again, Scotty continued to work the top side of the track but was losing his grip and fell back to the 14th position as he crossed the finish line. After coming back to the trailer, the team discovered the right rear tire blistered which caused for Thiel’s lack of grip after the restart. When a tire blisters, it loses air pressure, thus causing the tire to not grip the track as well. “Overall it was a solid run. There are 12 full time World of Outlaw drivers and we ended up 14th. I cannot complain about that run. I know we had a car capable of the top ten as we battled up there for a few laps. You just have to get aggressive with these guys. They are the best and you learn so much running with them. It was still a great night for us and the team. These guys worked hard all night to give me the chance to run this good. Hopefully we can make improvements from there and begin the second half of the season with some good luck.” Scotty explained after the night.
Next up on the Scott Thiel Motorsports schedule is this Friday night, July 3rd at the Manitowoc Speedway for the 1st Annual Harbor Town Showdown that is getting promoted by Scotty Thiel himself and SixFour Promotions. This will be the first time that the IRA 410 Outlaw Sprints will invade Manitowoc Speedway in over 12 years! Scotty has a pretty good record at Manitowoc so this will be an exciting event!

Torsion Bar Rate:
Torsion bar testing has been around as long as the bar has. There are many different ways to test bars, but they all have the same goal.... to compare one bar to another and give the results in a numerical value (PSI, FORCE POUNDS, RATE). This is good, but can be hard to understand. We simplify this process. The numbering system we use is standard to the torsion bar industries. During our test sessions, data is collected and stored in our software, which then calculates it to a torsion bar size that everyone can understand. We have found 1025 bars that test between a 1012 and a 1036 bar. Our test services take away the guesswork. We provide you with a TORSION BAR RATE. Check out www.torsionbarrate.com for more info!
