A special Thursday night show was held to honor Mark Lloyd on Thursday, a great supporter of Park Jefferson Speedway that passed away this past winter. Corn Belt Clash and MARS DIRTcar Late Models were the main event, with Jesse Stovall claiming the $3,000 top finishing spot on Billion Auto night. IMCA, USRA, and WISSOTA Sport Mods and Stock Cars were the supporting classes with Chris Abelson winning the Pederson Machine Sport Mod feature and Elijah Zevenbergen claiming the J&J Fitting Stock Car feature.
Pole sitter Chris Abelson used the pole position to his advantage as he jumped to an early lead in the 23 lap Pederson Machine Sport Mod feature. It only took Todd Boulware a few laps to take 2nd position after starting 5th. Colter Deutsch suffered bad luck when a left rear tire went flat while in 4th place. Hard charging Tyler Johnson was pressuring for 4th with Miah Christensen but contact between the two would cause both to retire from the race due to mechanical issues. A restart with 10 laps remaining would give Boulware a chance to rattle Abelson, but Abelson would fend off Boulware’s challenge and inch away from Boulware to claim the win. Abelson took the win, followed by Boulware, and Karl Brewer.
J&J Fitting Stock car feature action saw Elijah Zevenbergen take command of the field from his front row starting position. Chad Overgaard moved quickly into 2nd, as the race for 3rd was a three car battle for all 23 laps. Shane Krueger, Mel Elsberry, and Glen Wynia swapped positions many time throughout the race, as Zevenbergen drove away from the field for his 3rd win on the season. Overgaard finished a comfortable 2nd, and Krueger fended off Elsberry and Wynia to finish third.
The Late Models were up next for their 35 lap finale. Jesse Stovall used his high side momentum to edge Terry Phillips to lead lap one. Sixth place starter Chad Simpson picked off cars to move into second position before a lap 16 caution. Phillips moved back into 2nd on the restart, but another restart would allow Simpson to move past Phillips for the runner up position. The driver making moves was 14th starter Ryan Gustin. Gustin was one of the few cars to make the top side of the speedway work. Jesse Stovall would win his 2nd race of the year at Park Jefferson, as he was only challenged once for the lead in heavy lap traffic. Chad Simpson claimed the 2nd spot ahead of 3rd place finisher Terry Phillips. Ryan Gustin edged Jason Utter by inches to finish 4th.
Racing continues Saturday, June 27th at Park Jefferson Speedway with $5 grandstand admission night. Sign Masters Modifieds, J&J Fitting Stock Cars, Pederson Machine Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks, and Sport Compacts will be the five classes competing.
