ABC RACEWAY AND ANGELL PARK SPEEDWAY HOST IRA SPRINT WEEKEND DOUBLE HEADER!
June 18, 2015; Appleton, WI – The teams of the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints are going to extremes this weekend! Taking the thrill of 900 horsepower winged 410 sprint action on the road, the series will reach fans in the far edges of the state of Wisconsin.
Beginning on Saturday Night, the series will make it’s annual appearance at the ABC Raceway in Ashland, Wisconsin. The far northern track will see nearly two dozen teams make the trek flying around the three-eighths-mile red-clay oval at triple-digit speeds.
Last season two-time series champ Travis Whitney seemed to have the race in hand until a late race caution, and mechanical misfortune dropped him from the contest placing seven-time IRA kingpin Bill Balog out front. Balog held on to earn the victory, which was his third straight at the track. Scotty Thiel made a final turn pass on Scott Uttech to finish second, with Uttech earning his strongest finish last season in third.
All three podium finishers are expected to be in action this coming weekend.
Along with the IRA sprints, the program will include night number two of the three-night, three-track FastLane Motorsports Northland Super Stock Series, with drivers in that class racing for a $600 feature winner’s check. Also included in the program Saturday will be the WISSOTA Midwest Mods.
Adult tickets are $20, fans ages 6-12 can get in for $5, and kids ages 5 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult. Hot laps are set for 6:15 pm, followed by timed qualifying for the IRA sprints, then heat and feature action. “Z-93 Race Night” will air live on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, and stream online at www.wbszfm.com, from 4:30-6 pm with at-the-track news and weather updates.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990, or log on to the track’s website, www.abcraceway.com.
After the ABC Raceway event, teams will pack up, and hustle south down to the other end of the state to present their second show of the season at Angell Park Speedway located in Sun Prairie, WI.
In the most recent IRA event held just three weeks ago, Balog had a record setting night winning not only the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint main event, but taking home his first career A-main victory on Midget action.
Mike Reinke, and Bill Rose chased Balog to the finish. 2014 Knoxville Raceway champion Ian Madsen was in contention for the victory until a flattened a right rear tire slowed his pace with two laps to go, eventually placing sixth in the final rundown.
On that evening Rose also established a new track qualifying mark with a lap of 12.334 seconds.
Heading into the weekend Rose holds a two-point lead over Ben Schmidt in the early points chase with Scott Neitzel, Jeremy Schultz and Phillip Mock.
Blake Nimee who scored his first career IRA A-main win in the series most recent appearance at Wilmot Raceway two weeks ago heads into the show sixth in points while
Scotty Thiel, Balog, Russel Borland, and rookie Kyle Marten rounding out the early season top ten.
Fans attending the show at Angell Park Speedway will see Badger Midgets, Badger Micros, and Wisconsin Legends. Front gates open at 4:30pm, Hot Laps at 6:00pm with racing following Hot Laps. Front Gates Open at 4:30pm. General Admission: $20.00 ; Students 12 to 18: $15.00 ; Kids Under 12: FREE
