Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (June 17, 2015) – Brandon Hanks rebounded to post his best-ever finish at Devil’s Bowl Speedway last Saturday during the opening round of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour’s Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek.

“Bad circumstances put us behind from the start,” he said. “We drew a bad number and on a big, fast track like that it was hard to pass in the heat race. It was single file without much passing. We passed two cars on the start and that’s where we wound up. We were all basically going the same speed.”

Hanks drove the David Smith Racing entry from seventh to fifth place during his heat race, which relegated the team into a B Main. Hanks then finished where he started – second – in the consolation race to transfer into the main event.

“We were all running the same speed from the middle to the top in the B Main,” he said. “We were the same speed as (eventual winner) Tony Bruce Jr.”

Hanks lined up on the inside of the 10th row for the 30-lap main event.

“I passed some cars on the start and the track was a lot racier,” he said. “You could run the very top in turns one and two and the top and bottom in turns three and four. I wouldn’t mind it being 100 laps long. I was having a blast.”

Hanks rallied from 19th to earn an 11th-place result.

“I would say it was a successful night,” he said. “We had a pretty tall hill to climb starting that far back in a heat race. We were behind from the get-go based on the luck of the draw, but we had a really fast car.”

Hanks will resume Speedweek competition this Friday at Salina Speedway in Salina, Kan., and Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., following rainouts on Wednesday and Thursday in Oklahoma.

“I look forward to Salina,” he said. “We had a good showing there last year and I feel like going back with our J-R1 chassis we’ll be pretty good. I haven’t had much success at Lucas Oil Speedway, but I love going there. It’s a super nice facility. I think we’ll be able to turn things around at that place.”
