The Barr Motorsports team rolled into East Texas Speedway in Petty, Texas feeling good about their chances. The team was visiting a new track with Sprint Series of Texas on June 6, 2015. The day started early as the team did a car show in Paris, Texas at the Burgerland Restaurant. After the show was over the team headed over to the racetrack to prep for the nights races. The lead up to the race Adam and Josh looked at YouTube videos and overhead imagery of the track to see what to expect. When Josh was asked what to expect he said “The track reminds us of Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige so we are going to set it up like we are going there and just adjust as the night goes on. When the team arrived they looked at the track and noticed some similarities but some differences as well. The team went out for hot laps and noticed that the track was already drying out. Josh and Jared got to work as soon as the car got back to the pits getting the car reset for dryslick conditions. As the heat race came around Adam was starting 3rd and knew that he had to finish in the top 5 to transfer to the A Main. As the green flag flew Adam tried running the top and fell back to 5th as he moved down to the bottom of the track the car came alive and he started running down the top 4 cars. With 2 laps to go Adam started making moves and made it into the 3rd position as the checkered flag flew. When Adam got back to the trailer the work had already started on tightening up the car more for the A-Main. We asked Adam about the heat race, he stated “We tightened the car up from hot laps and I tried running the top and middle for a couple of laps and there was nothing there so I went to the bottom and the car started working really well.” When Josh was asked about the heat race he stated “The heat race went well we could have went a little further but we will save that for the A-Main. We are going to tighten this car up and give Adam a shot at this thing.” The feature race rolled around and Adam was starting on the outside second row in the 4th position. The green flag dropped and Adam started his pursuit, a hole opened to the inside and Adam jumped to the lower groove and coming out of turn 2 Adam was running 2nd. When the leaders came out of turn 4 the first place car spun into the infield and Adam assumed the lead and took off. Adam got about a straightaway lead on the field but was being reeled in by veteran racer Jerry Hammock. After about 4 laps Adam felt the brake pedal go soft he held onto what lead he could with about 25% brakes. Hammock caught Adam and the fight for the lead was on after 2 laps Hammock was able to get off turn 2 a little better than Adam and Adam was now running second. The yellow came out for a spin in turn 4 and this allowed the leaders to cool off their tires and bunch back up. As the green flew for the restart Hammock got an advantage and Adam was holding off Trevor Reed for third as coming into lap traffic Reed was able to get under Adam and push him back to third with two laps to go and about 10% brake pressure Adam was trying to hold onto third Gary Kelly was able to sneak by for the 3rd spot and when the checkers flew Adam ended up in the 4th position. When Adam got back to the trailer he spoke of his race “What a race; that was awesome!!! Really wish the brakes would have held together because we had a car to win the race tonight. I can’t thank Josh and Jared enough they made all the right changes and stayed on top of the track conditions. I could not do this without these two.” When asked about the facilities Adam stated “The track, facilities and track officials were great, for a new operation East Texas Speedway is doing a great job and can’t wait to come back.” We asked Josh about the night and he stated “Adam did an awesome job tonight best I have ever seen him drive, he is getting that confidence back that we had at the end of last season and keeps getting better every race. I’m glad we went and ran Cotton Bowl 2 weeks ago, the track conditions were almost identical and it helped with the decisions we made on the setup.” We asked Jared about what he thought of the night and he said “The car was great and Adam ran a great race, most fun I have had at the races this year.” The team will now look forward to Cotton Bowl Speedway on June 20th for their next race. We will have a write up previewing that race coming shortly.
