Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (June 15, 2015) – Despite a recent lack of crew members, Jason Sides scored his 20th top 10 of the season last Friday during his debut at Crawford County Speedway.
Sides earned a ninth-place result during the inaugural World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at the track located in Denison, Iowa.
“It’s kinda nice because you don’t get bored with the same guy,” he joked. “I just pick up somebody everywhere I go.”
Sides kicked off a tripleheader last Friday with his best result of the weekend. He qualified third quickest and placed third in a heat race to lock into the dash at Crawford County Speedway. Sides then finished fifth in the dash before he posted the top 10 in the main event.
“It was good to get a top 10 and get through the night smooth,” he said. “Making the dash certainly helps and we were able to run in the top 10 all night.”
Sides ventured to Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday for the Mediacom Shootout. He timed in 33rd quickest during qualifying before ending fifth in a heat race, which locked him into the 22nd starting position for the main event.
Unfortunately, a three-hour rain delay prior to the feature was followed by a thick fog that invaded Knoxville Raceway as the main event began around 2 a.m. local time.
“It was one lane and foggy and wide open,” he said. “On the front straightaway the stands blocked a little of it. Going into turn one you could see fairly decent. Going down the backstretch you couldn’t see going into turn three. If there was a car maybe three cars in front of you you lost them. It was the worst I’ve ever seen.”
The race was called official after 15 of the 25 laps had been completed and Sides was credited with a 19th-place finish.
The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway, where Sides qualified 14th quickest. He then rallied from fifth to second place during a heat race to lock himself into the 14th starting position for the main event.
“They graded the race track trying to keep it from laying rubber,” he said. “It was really slick and then maybe Lap 8 or 9 it was solid rubber. You just got in line and followed around there right around the bottom. I feel like we could have had a good car if the race track was a little better.”
Sides ended with a 14th-place result.
He will return to action on Tuesday at Granite City Speedway in Sauk Rapids, Minn., where he will make his debut before races on Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., and Saturday at Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, S.D., with the World of Outlaws.
