Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (June 15, 2015) – Travis Rilat posted his first top five of the season with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour last Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.
The drive to earn a top five during the opening round of the Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek was as impressive as the result.
“We didn’t start off the night well, but were able to rebound in the main event,” he said. “I learned a couple of things in the B Main that helped for the feature.”
Rilat opened the event by finishing third in a heat race after he started on the outside of the front row. That relegated him to the pole of a B Main, which he placed second in to transfer into the back of the main event.
“The track widened out throughout the night,” he said. “It was narrow in the heat, but got better. We also got better and it all clicked in the main event.”
Rilat quickly advanced into the top 10 from his 20th starting position before he methodically maneuvered into the top five. He then made a late-race pass to secure a fourth-place finish. It marked his seventh total top five this season.
“Any time you can get a top five with the ASCS National Tour it’s a good night, but to come from 20th was great,” he said. “We had a car capable of winning if we could have started closer to the front.”
Rilat will take this weekend off before resuming Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour competition June 25-27 at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., where he will drive for Richard Saumure during the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup.
