Inside Line Promotions – DODGE CITY, Kan. (June 9, 2015) – Zach Blurton continued his hot streak by earning a podium finish last Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park during a United Rebel Sprint Series event.
Blurton rallied from eighth to score a second-place finish, which tied his season best and is his fourth podium result in eight races this year. It also marked his third podium in the last three races.
“I started the night off by drawing the No. 1 pill,” he said. “I hadn’t ever done that before. That started me on the pole of the first heat and I got the jump. In turns one and two you were right around the bottom and barely on the gas. In turns three and four it was right up on the wall wide open. You had to be patient at one end and run hard on the other.”
Blurton’s heat race victory put him in the feature redraw, which utilized a revenge style where a competitor picks a random pill and gives the number selected to another driver.
“I got stuck with the eight,” he said. “It makes for a pretty good show because they put all the fast cars toward the back. It’s a great show for the fans.”
Blurton quickly moved forward from his eighth starting position and he ran inside the top five for most of the 25-lap feature.
“We had a lot of good cars in front of us and a lot of good cars behind us,” he said. “I got a couple of cars in the first few laps and I settled into fifth. I thought we were only going to run fifth. The track was really slick at the beginning and we had the car too loose. I thought the track already had more rubber down before we went out, but the car started to come in toward the last half of the race.”
Blurton made a late-race push to secure the third position. However, he was credited with second place after another competitor was disqualified.
“We’ll take a second place and keep carrying the momentum,” he said. “A win has to be coming pretty soon.”
Blurton will return to Dodge City Raceway Park this Saturday. He currently ranks third in the track standings – only 26 points out of the lead.
