Inside Line Promotions – SALINA, Okla. (June 9, 2015) – Brandon Hanks registered his best career Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour result last Saturday at Salina Highbanks Speedway.
Hanks guided the David Smith Racing entry to a sixth-place finish during the main event, which gave him four top 10s in his last five races.
“I’m happy with our night,” he said. “We had the car pretty dialed in.”
The event began with Hanks leading the first handful of laps during a heat race before finishing second.
“The driver screwed up in the heat race,” he said. “I cost us that. The car got pretty free on me going into the first corner. The top was at the top of the race track. It spooked me so I was backing my corners up too much. It was costing me and I didn’t realize it. As the race went on I figured out what I did and started driving it harder on the cushion.”
The second-place result locked him into the 11th starting position for the main event.
“I did not miss the bottom the whole race and that’s what helped me,” he said. “A lot of people kept overdriving and that helped me pass them. I could get a lot of speed coming out of the corners. I got a lot of bite and I could pull them down the straightaways as well.”
Hanks rallied into fourth place before a late miscue cost him two positions.
“I made one little bobble coming out of turn four and two drivers had a good run and passed me with about two laps to go,” he said. “I’m happy with the way everything went. It was a good night.”
Hanks is scheduled to compete this Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, where the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek kicks off.
“I’m just really excited about Speedweek,” he said. “What’s more fun than racing day in and day out? Devil’s Bowl is one of my favorite tracks. We’ve had some good finishes there.”
