The full grandstands of fans at Grays Harbor Raceway were treated to another great night of dirt track racing around the 3/8 banked clay oval with the Summer Thunder Sprint Series, Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks, and the Outlaw Tuners.
Cut Rate Auto Parts Street Stocks:
The 20 lap feature would see Elma's Ryen Haney and Jason Tole of Hoquiam lead the strong field to the green flag. Tole and Haney would race side by side into turn one, with Tole taking the lead. Aberdeen's Austin Kerrigan would move into the second spot, looking to chase down Tole for the lead. Eddie Blood of Olympia, who got upside down last week during heat race action would move into the third position. Lap 2 would see Austin Kerrigan look to the inside of Tole in turn two, to try to take the lead. Kerrigan would use the low side to his advantage and take the lead from Tole. It wouldn't take long before Tole would look to make his move, but couldn't make the pass.
Tole would get the lead back from Kerrigan on lap 8 out of turn four, and take the lead. The first caution of the feature would come out for Spanaway's Tom Hecker, as he would have mechanical issues. On the restart Tole would lead Austin Kerrigan, and his father Shane Kerrigan of Aberdeen to the green flag. Austin Kerrigan would look to the inside for the lead out of turn four, while Shane Kerrigan would make his move on his son Austin making it a three wide battle for the lead. Austin and Shane Kerrigan would battle, along with Tole making a very exciting Street Stock feature. Lap 12 would see Austin Kerrigan get the lead from Tole out of turn four. The yellow flag would come out for Ryen Haney, as he would spin in turn two on lap 18. On the green, white, checkered restart, Austin Kerrigan would lead the field, and hold on to pick up his fourth win of the year. Shane Kerrigan, Jason Tole, Jack Parshall, and Brenton Schnitzer would round out the top five. Parshall, Shane Kerrigan and Austin Kerrigan would pick up heat race victories, and Parshall would get fast time.
Summer Thunder Sprint Series:
Snohomish driver Reece Goetz and Colton Heath of Marysville would lead the 22 car field to the green flag for the 30 lap feature. Goetz would take the early lead, with Heath looking to chase him down. Burlington driver Jason Solwold would move by Valleyview, Alberta's Steve Reeves for the third position, and look to get by Heath out of turn 2 on lap 2, Heath would have more momentum on the high side of raceway and keep the second position. Heath would get to the back bumper of Goetz and look to make a pass out of turn two, but the high side would work in Goetz's advantage. The first caution of the feature would be for Enumclaw's Nick Thornhill, as he would spin to a stop in turn two on lap 7. Goetz would lead Heath, and Solwold to the green flag on the restart. Solwold would get by Heath for the second position out of turn two on the high side and look to chase down Reece Goetz.
Plenty of battling throughout the field would see slide jobs traded back and forth for numerous positions. Solwold would get by Goetz, on a lap 12 restart, and take the lead down the backstretch. Goetz would try to look to the inside, but couldn't make the pass on Solwold. The first red flag of the evening would come out for an incident that started after contact between Jayme Barnes of Everett, and Henry Van Dam of Enumclaw, causing Van Dam to have major damage and go to the infield, while going into the infield the car would catch fire out left side. While that happened, Thornhill would get upside down in turn four, after contact with the turn four wall. Both drivers were ok. Setting up a green, white, checkered restart, Solwold would lead Puyallup's Trey Starks, Goetz, and Heath, Solwold would get a great restart, and go on to pick up the Summer Thunder Sprint Series feature. Colton Heath, Trey Starks, Reece Goetz, and Cam Smith would round out the top five. Heat race winners earlier in the evening were Brock Lemley, Reece Goetz, and Trey Starks with Jason Solwold picking up fast time.
Outlaw Tuners:
Willie Wright of Aberdeen would lead another Aberdeen driver Ryan Onasch to the green flag on the 20 lap Outlaw Tuner feature. Wright would pull away on the start, with Onasch chasing him down. Just as the green flag would fly, the yellow would come out for Melvin Welch, as he would stop in turn four. Setting up a complete restart, Wright would take the early lead once again over Onasch. It wouldn't take long for Onasch to get to his back bumper, and look to try to make a pass on the inside, but Wright would hold him off. Onasch would be on Wright's back bumper, looking for any costly mistake, even looking to the outside of Wright but couldn't make the pass.
Onasch would make the pass on Wright out of turn four on lap 7 to take the lead. Wright would have issues later on in the feature, and pull to the infield. The Outlaw Tuner feature would go green the rest of the way with Ryan Onasch picking up his first career Outlaw Tuner win.
Racing will resume next Saturday night with the return of the Northwest Wingless Tour/Oregon Double Shot Series wingless sprint cars, the Shipwreck Bead's Modifieds, Northwest Focus Midget Series, and the Outlaw Tuners. Gates will open at 5:30 PM, with racing starting at 7PM.
