The sizzle is back, as things heat up in a big way with Saturday night’s Summer Sizzle event at the 1/3-mile Canyon Speedway Park clay oval.
The 9th World IMCA Modifieds will headline Saturday night’s Summer Sizzle along with a full slate of Arizona Differential Pure Stocks, Scottsdale Muffler & Automotive Renegades, Micro Sprints, Dwarf Cars and Mini Stocks.
Saturday’s racing action gets under way at 7:00 p.m.
While defending track champion Ricky Thornton, Jr., topped the most recent 9th World Vapor IMCA Modified event on May 9, it’s Shawn Zelenka out to the points lead with a slim four-point lead over Garett Funk.
Bo Partain is just another three points back in the Modified title chase with George Fronsman and Bryson Curry also among the top five.
The May 9 win for Thornton, Jr., made him the fourth different winner in as many Modified points events at CSP with Jason Noll, Mike Strobl and Partain also capturing wins.
Matt Martinez topped the May 24 Arizona Differential Pure Stock feature to match Chris McCurdy, Jr., in the win column with three wins each since regular season competition began in March. McCurdy, Jr., is four points ahead of Martinez in the title chase with Zack Madrid, Steve Bitting and Joe Vlasity also among the top five.
Similar to the Modifieds, the Scottsdale Muffler & Automotive Renegades have offered up four different winners in the last four outings including Chuck Thornton, Jason Crowe, Daniel Romero and Joe Vlasity. Romero holds the Renegade points lead by five markers over Vlasity and Mike Hartsock, who are tied for second.
The Micro Sprints have featured four different recent winners as well including Spencer Hill, Gary Winter, Cliff Cormany and Colton Hardy.
Cory Brown topped the most recent Dwarf Car outing on May 9 after Brian Stehr topped the initial pair of events while Kent Ewart, Jr., won the only previous Mini Stock feature this season.
