Inside Line Promotions – LAWTON, Okla. (June 3, 2015) – Cody Wampler is set to return to competition this Saturday at Lawton Speedway following a month away from the track.
Wampler led all but the final three laps in the Randall Buzbee owned sprint car on May 2 when disaster struck. An engine issue stalled the team that night and has kept Wampler from competing.
“Lawton has cancelled four weeks in a row for rain, which has been pretty fortunate for us,” he said. “The first three weeks we were getting our motor together after we blew it up the last time out. We could have got it together for last Saturday, but Lawton got five or six inches of rain in about an hour Thursday evening so they cancelled again.”
With an improved forecast for this weekend and a fresh engine Wampler is excited to return to Lawton Speedway for Saturday’s Oil Capital Racing Series event.
“I’m pretty optimistic about it,” he said. “We found out a few issues and what happened to it. We had too much timing in it, more than the marks said. I’m optimistic of it running better. Hopefully this beast will last us until the end of the year and we can get rolling. We were really competitive the last time out. I’m excited to race with the OCRS to see how we stack up. We feel confident we have a top-five car.”
Wampler said he is aiming for a victory, but will be happy running consistent and competitive laps throughout Saturday’s event.
“I really want a win,” he said. “I think we have a car capable of that. There will be a lot of cars and talented drivers at Lawton on Saturday so if we can get out of there with a good finish it’ll be a great night.”
