The USAC National Sprint Car Series returns to the Winchester (Ind.) Speedway on Sunday, October 4, for the annual “Winchester Oldtimers Weekend,” showcasing the stars and cars of today while also featuring the cars which formed the backbone of the series and competed at the half-mile paved oval in past years.

A 40-lap feature race is on tap for the Sprint cars, which will be making their second appearance of 2009 at the historic oval. Tracy Hines captured the “Rich Vogler Classic” there in July in dramatic fashion taking the lead from Cole Whitt on lap 37. The 2009 National Sprint Car events at Winchester Speedway are 40 laps, which is an increase from the 30 lap features in previous years. The additional 10 laps were added to increase exciting racing for the fans.

Officials of USAC have decided to postpone, for 2009, the addition of the USAC Mopar National Midget Series in the weekend activities due to economic conditions. It is hoped that the Midgets will eventually become part of the popular racing weekend format. The Midgets were originally scheduled for Saturday, October 3. The National Midget Series will return to action on September 19 at Columbus Motor Speedway.

“Winchester Speedway has long been a staple for USAC racers and has produced some exciting competition and world record speeds,” says USAC President Kevin Miller. “We are excited about being a part of this American motorsports showcase and value our relationship with the track and it organizers.”
