Inside Line Promotions – DODGE CITY, Kan. (June 2, 2015) – Zach Blurton took advantage of his first 360ci winged sprint car race in nearly a year last Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park.
Blurton, who made his debut for the Ochs Brothers in the famed No. 1x, won a heat race and finished third during the NCRA feature at the 3/8-mile oval.
“I was more than pleased with it,” he said. “From the start of the night I felt comfortable in the car and trusted it. That’s a lot getting in a car you haven’t driven.”
The event began with Blurton charging from fourth to win his heat race, which made him the high points driver.
“The track was already decently wide in the heats,” he said. “On the start I was in fourth going into turns one and two. I came off the bottom down the backstretch and got by one car. The next lap I did the same thing. A couple laps later I passed the leader going into turn one. I’d enter in the middle (of the corners) to set the car to come off the bottom. Everybody else was going in on the bottom and sliding up. That’s where I’d capitalize on it. The car was set up great. It’d come off the bottom real well. I ended up winning by a straightaway.”
That started Blurton on the pole for the 25-lap main event.
“Jeremy Campbell got the jump on the start and got out half a straightaway from me,” he said. “Then CJ Johnson got by me for second. We didn’t think the track would do what it did. The moisture came back up in the track and it kind of got rough. We had softened up the right rear bar. It made it a handful through the ruts and the holes.”
Blurton ended with his third top-five result of the season.
“I was pretty happy to run third behind two quality drivers,” he said. “That finish will help me with confidence and momentum. I can’t thank the Ochs Brothers enough for the opportunity and I hope we can work together again soon.”
Blurton is scheduled to return to Dodge City Raceway Park this Saturday for a United Rebel Sprint Series event.
