Granite City Speedway, which formerly was Golden Spike Speedway, changed names prior to the 2013 season when a new group assumed ownership of the track. Numerous improvements have been made to the facility over the last couple of years, with even more in the works.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series raced three times in Minnesota last season, with veterans Paul McMahan and Joey Saldana picking up wins, as well as first-time winner Roger Crockett. The World of Outlaws have raced at seven different tracks in Minnesota, dating back to 1979, the sophomore season of the series, which was born in 1978.

Donny Schatz, the six-time and defending series champion, who drives for Tony Stewart Racing, leads the series into Granite City Speedway on the stretch of 11 wins in the first 29 races this season. The North Dakota native sits atop the leaderboard in a number of statistical categories, including laps led, top-10 finishes and top-five finishes. Shane Stewart, who has won three times this season, is currently second in points as has been one of the most consistent drivers during the first one-third of the season. The Oklahoman drives for a team co-owned by rising NASCAR star Kyle Larson.

Brad Sweet, who is Daryn Pittman’s teammate at Kasey Kahne Racing, is currently third in points and has won a couple of races this year. Rounding out the top-five in points is Paul McMahan in fourth, who has a couple of wins, and Kerry Madsen in fifth, who is chasing his first win of 2015.

Also in action on Tuesday, June 16 at Granite City Speedway will be veteran drivers Joey Saldana, Pittman, Jason Sides and Kraig Kinser, along with young guns David Gravel, Logan Schuchart and Jacob Allen.

Sprint car legend and three-time World of Outlaws champion, Sammy Swindell, will also be in action at Crawford County Speedway. The Hall of Famer recently joined forces with Jason Johnson’s team to fill in for Johnson, who continues to recover from injuries sustained in a racing accident in California in April.
