After over a decade between World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series events at I-80 Speedway in Nebraska, the series returned to the four-tenths-mile last season to contest their 13th ever event at the track dating back to 1995. The World of Outlaws return to I-80 Speedway for NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Showdown for the second straight year on Friday, June 5, in what is one of just two trips to Nebraska for the series this season. The World of Outlaws will be joined by the Malvern Bank SLMR Late Model Series.
Joey Saldana, who has family in Nebraska, won for the first time at I-80 Speedway last season during the NAPA Auto Parts Outlaw Showdown. The veteran driver started second and took the lead from pole sitter, six-time and defending series champion, Donny Schatz, on the opening lap. Saldana would pace all 30 circuits in what was his fourth win of the season. He would finish the season with seven A-Feature victories. Paul McMahan was the fastest qualifier of the 30 entrants at I-80 Speedway in 2014.

The inaugural World of Outlaws race at I-80 Speedway in 1995 was won by Hall of Famer Mark Kinser. The Indiana native won a series-best four times at the track, which coincidentally were the first four races, held by the series at I-80 Speedway. Fellow Hall of Famers that have won World of Outlaws events at I-80 Speedway include 20-time series champion Steve Kinser, as well as three-time series titlist Sammy Swindell, Jac Haudenschild and 2001 series champion Danny Lasoski. A total of eight drivers have won with the series over the years at I-80.
A strong contingent is following the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series full-time time in 2015, including Saldana and Schatz, along with Kasey Kahne Racing teammates Daryn Pittman and Brad Sweet, as well as Shane Stewart, who drives for Larson Marks Racing, which is co-owned by NASCAR rising star Kyle Larson. Other contenders include McMahan, Kerry Madsen, Jason Sides, David Gravel, Kraig Kinser, Australian Jamie Veal Logan Schuchart and Jacob Allen.
Schatz is the current point leader, having recently reached double digits in wins for his Tony Stewart Racing team. I-80 Speedway is one of the few tracks on the schedule that the third-winningest driver in series history has yet to win at. Just behind Schatz is Shane Stewart, who has a trio of victories and has been one of the most consistent drivers this season. Daryn Pittman, the 2013 series champion, also has three wins on the year. Drivers checking in with two triumphs include Brad Sweet and McMahan.
