Inside Line Promotions – BYRAM, Miss. (May 26, 2015) – Channin Tankersley capped last weekend by earning his second top-five finish of the season.
Tankersley and his team rallied from 11th to a fourth-place finish after making a late decision to tackle a USCS Mid South Speedweek event at Jackson Motor Speedway on Saturday following ASCS Gulf South Region rainouts on Saturday at Shady Oaks Speedway in Golaid, Texas, and on Sunday at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas.
“The car wasn’t very good when I started the race,” said Tankersley, who finished second in a heat race to line up on the inside of the sixth row for the main event. “On like the third lap I had the wing in the back of the trunk.”
The setup gradually began to play into Tankersley’s hands as the feature played out.
“It just kept getting better throughout the race,” he said. “We started picking them off one by one. I was running the middle and everyone was on the bottom or the top.”
The fourth-place result was a boost following a DNF the previous night with the ASCS Gulf South Region at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas.
Tankersley maneuvered from fourth to second place in the heat race to lock himself into the feature redraw, where the No. 3 lined him up on the inside of the second row for the main event.
“It was really rough up top and it was slick everywhere else,” he said. “We had had a little bit of motor problems in the beginning of the night. Actually, we barely made the heat race. We paid too much attention to the motor rather than getting the car right and it hurt us in the A main. We were too free the whole race.”
Tankersley maintained a top five throughout a majority of the race before he was involved in a late-race caution. His throttle began to stick so Tankersley elected not to restart the race and risk tearing up his equipment. He was credited with a 15th-place finish and ranks sixth in the championship standings.
Tankersley is slated to return to action on June 13 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
