Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (May 26, 2015) – Travis Rilat enjoyed a successful season debut with Richard Saumure last Saturday at Skagit Speedway, where the duo recorded a top-five result in both the 410ci and 360ci classes at the high-banked track.
“We hadn’t run the 39c car this year so we wanted to make a few laps,” Rilat said. “More than anything Saturday was a tune-up for Dirt Cup. We just wanted to get laps on the track.”
Rilat opened Saturday’s festivities by qualifying third quickest in the 410 class before placing third in a heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the second row for the main event.
“It was decent, but we never really did get the car set up the way it needed to be,” he said. “The night went pretty fast so we didn’t have a whole of time to mess with things between the two cars.”
Rilat ended with a fourth-place finish, which marked his fifth top five of the season.
The duo fared better in the 360 class with Rilat qualifying sixth quickest and advancing from third place to win a heat race. That started him on the inside of the third row for the feature.
“I think we had a real good car for the feature,” he said. “We just needed lapped traffic. Colton (Heath) ran a very good race. We were right there the last five laps or so before we had a caution. He did a good job of getting through traffic. He made all the right moves.”
Rilat finished with a runner-up result. It was his fifth podium finish this year.
“Our goal was to go win both races, but we got some valuable laps around there and finished with two good results,” he said. “We’ll take what we learned and hopefully it will help us win the next race.”
Rilat had also planned to compete last Sunday at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, but the ASCS Gulf South Region event was rained out.
