Tulsa OK (May 26, 2015) – The AmeriFlex Hose & Accessories / Oil Capital Racing Series is scheduled to return to the Lawton Speedway this Saturday night for what is now to be round number six of the 2015 sprint car tour. Tulsa pilot Sean McClelland scored his first win of the season at the speedway back on April 25th.

Norman Oklahoma’s Sheldon Barksdale took over the AmeriFlex / OCRS points lead from McClelland after the May 15th event at the Flint Creek Speedway and will be in action as he attempts to sustain his early season success. Rainy weather has wrecked havoc on the racing season and the teams of the AmeriFlex / OCRS series are chomping at the bit to get back to action.

Fan favorite Robert Sellers comes into the event second in points and is the only driver with two wins in the early going with those triumphs coming at the Outlaw Motor Speedway and Flint Creek Speedway. Next is Brian McClelland who sits just ahead of brother Sean, who was MIA at Flint Creek. There is a tie at the fifth spot between defending champion Andrew Deal and Brent Bates.

Nutz n’ Boltz:

The Sky Is Leaking – Oklahoma has needed rain badly as the state has been in a severe drought stage for a few years. But record rainfall has forced cancellation after cancellation of racing events region wide. The upcoming event at Lawton this week was to be race #10 on the season instead of #6. Thanks to a May 2nd make-up event race from an April rainout at the Caney Valley Speedway, there would have only been one race in the books for the month otherwise, just unheard of from a historical perspective.

Industry Impact – The entire central section of the country is being affected by these persistent rainmakers. Not only are promoters taking a hit by loosing valuable calendar squares, but consider the following when race cars sit idle in race shops:

Tire manufactures are stuck with piles of black rubber
Parts suppliers have shelves jammed with inventory that take up space
Tanks at fueling stations aren’t nursing fuel to thirsty tow rigs
Motor Builders aren’t replacing toasted motors or refreshing extremely tired ones
Weekend income for track employees are going down storm drains
Food and beverage vendors are left staring at expiration dates
T-Shirt vendors have more cotton than a southern plantation crop

About the only ones coming out ahead are the car owners as they are witnessing their bank accounts swell to unusual proportions as their money pits play dead.

Defending Home Turf – Wheelman Chad Koch almost defended home turf at Lawton on 4/25 by running a tight second to Sean McClelland. With the exception of a double take down by Kyle Cobb in 2011, AmeriFlex / OCRS pilots have went to victory lane in all events contested on the red oval. Lawton regulars have picked up their game with each visit as regular AmeriFlex / OCRS teams have taken notice.

Eye On The Sky – Should the May 30th event at Lawton get doused, the next event for the AmeriFlex / OCRS series will be on June 12th at the Monett Speedway in Missouri. With the last race held at Flint Creek Speedway on May 15th, that would be just two days shy of a full month (30 days) of no racing.

The last time the series went 30 or more days without turning laps? You would have to go back to 2008 when OCRS held a wing and non-wing affair at the Creek County Speedway on June 26th and then, it wasn’t until August 29th that the well rested hit the Outlaw Motor Speedway for a span of 34 days off. Cody Cordell won the wing race, Mike Goodman the non-wing but it was Jamie Passmore getting the big check for being the top ‘combined’ point earner at Creek while Rafe Essary took Outlaw loot. There is a lot of back & forth note checking to schedule make-up shows.

There is an order for beach weather sunshine placed. If the express company does their job, we will be racing with shades on and cocktails in hand come Saturday. Ladies & Gentlemen: Its time to get back to business.
