Mark Dobmeier – First Win Comes at River Cities!

The first win for the Jimco Motorsports #13 came in a familiar place for driver Mark Dobmeier. He passed Dusty Zomer in lapped traffic on Friday night to record his 108th career win at the River Cities Speedway in his hometown of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Weather played havoc on the team’s plans to run three times last weekend, but they will try it again this week. On Friday, the FVP National Sprint League will be at the $10,000 to win Folkens Bros. Trucking Spring Nationals at Jackson Speedway in Minnesota. The team plans on competing at the weekly show Saturday at Knoxville Raceway before another NSL event at Huset’s Speedway near Brandon, South Dakota on Sunday.

When the “Sprints Gone Wild” event was rained out in Jacksonville, Illinois on Friday, it opened up the opportunity to race at River Cities. Mark would start sixth in his heat. “We were able to get around the boys and win it,” he says. “It was a fairly non-typical track for River Cities. With all the rain that we’ve had, no one thought we would race. The track crew there worked hard to get the track ready and it was in shape to race. It was very heavy and rough. Patience was a big key on Friday night.”

Patience paid off come feature time, where he would start seventh. “We got going, and everyone was antsy,” says Mark. “They wrecked a couple right away. Zomer was really fast. He got around me, and I kind of followed him through the lapped cars as the race went on.”

Finally, Mark was able to make a move on Zomer. “Once we got into lapped traffic, he got bottled up with a few cars,” he says. “I was able to sneak by him with about six or seven laps to go. Once I got out in the open and lost some of my fuel load, I had a really decent car there. There was one little bobble with about two laps to go. I got a little high in one and two and turned the car a little too much…I rode out a wheelie about halfway down the backstretch.”

The team’s original Jacksonville/Knoxville/Huset’s plan for last weekend just didn’t happen. “We were watching the weather all week long,” says Mark. “Of course, Jacksonville was canceled on Thursday. We looked at the weather for Knoxville Friday night, and it looked like their typical big chance of rain. Huset’s looked the same on Sunday, so we stayed home. I think Huset’s ended up canceling about 5:30 so at least that was the right call.”
