Inside Line Promotions – WEEDSPORT, N.Y. (May 19, 2015) – Joe Trenca’s World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series career debut in his home state didn’t go as he hoped last Sunday at Weedsport Speedway during the Empire State Challenge.
“In hot laps I had something up with the throttle,” he said. “It was very hard. It screwed me up in hot laps and I didn’t get any good laps. We got it fixed for qualifying, but we drew a bad number so we were behind all night.”
Trenca timed in 33rd quickest during qualifying, which lined him up last in the first heat race.
“A couple of laps in we were good around the top,” he said. “We were catching guys, but it was really hard to pass.”
Trenca finished ninth in the heat race, relegating him to the back of the Last Chance Showdown.
“There were a lot of cautions,” he said. “Once I got rolling again around the top it was good. It was just hard to pass. It was a narrow track. We learned a lot of things with the car though. I think as a driver I picked up that with the 410 it’s a lot about wing speed. I think that will help me in the 360s.”
Trenca, who placed 11th in the consolation race, will return to 360ci competition this weekend with the Patriot Sprint Tour. He will make his debut at both Stateline Speedway in Busti, N.Y., on Saturday and at Eriez Speedway in Erie, Pa., on Sunday.
“I’m not too worried about it,” he said. “I think we’ll be all right. I’ve heard both tracks will be slick where we’re going. I’m hoping what I learned in the 410 race on Sunday will help me in the slick stuff this weekend.”
Last Saturday’s Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints event at Selinsgrove Speedway in Selinsgrove, Pa., was rained out.
