Gravel Goes Forward at Williams Grove and Weedsport

PETERSEN MEDIA: Hitting the eastern region over the last week, David Gravel and his Destiny Motorsports continue to mesh and get comfortable with each other as they recorded finishes of 11th, 13th and 16th.

“We want to finish better, but we did some good things over the last week, and I need to take advantage of some front row starting positions in heat race,” Gravel said.

Kicking his week off on Wednesday night at the Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, PA, Gravel would time the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Benic Enterprises No. 7 in fifth fastest.

Finishing fourth in his heat, Gravel would have no help, and would just narrowly miss the dash, as he lined up in the ninth spot of the feature event. With a couple of stoppages slowing the early goings of the race, Gravel would jump into the Top-10, as he searched around various lines trying to get going the right direction.

With passing tough on Wednesday night, Gravel was relentless in his efforts to gain positions, and as he experimented, he would eventually drop back to the 11th spot where he would finish.

“We had good speed, but we missed out on the dash, and pretty much finished where we started,” Gravel added.

Friday night the scene shifted to the Williams Groove Speedway, for the first of two scheduled night of racing.

Going out early in time trials, Gravel would hang on to the 14th spot, and find himself on the front row of his heat race, alongside Paul McMahan. With the outside line being the preferred starting spot, Gravel would slip into the second as the race went green, but made a valiant effort to take the lead on the exit of turn two as he finished in the second spot.

Moving into the feature event, the Watertown, CT would grid the field from the seventh row. With the race going non-stop, Gravel would get as high as the 11th position, and as traffic came into play in the final stages of the race, he would slip back and finish in the 13th spot.

“We put ourselves in a good spot in the heat race, but couldn’t get the start we needed to move into the dash, and we got strung out in a hurry in a non-stop feature event,” Gravel noted.

Following Saturday night’s rain out, the scene shifted to the Weedsport Speedway in New York, as the World of Outlaws invaded the facility for the first time in 22 years.

Not getting timed in well, Gravel would line up seventh in his heat race, and was able to move up into a transfer spot as a fourth place finish put his machine in the feature event.

Lining up in the 12th row for the 35-lap feature event, Gravel was able to get his machine moving forward, as he slowly worked his way forward. On an extremely slick racing surface, Gravel would end his night with a 16th place finish.

“I put us in a pretty big hole after time trials, and we spent the night trying to dig out,” Gravel said. “The guys worked very hard all week, and I thank them for their effort, and I am hoping the weather holds off so we can race Tuesday night. I also need to thank Rick and Barb Rogers for continuing to support us.”

Destiny Motorsports would like to thank MonDak Portables, Ft. Union Supply and Trading, Benic Enterprises, Rick Rogers Construction, Maxim Chassis, Boss Signs and Graphics, Rod End Supply, Driver Websites, Petersen Media, , GME Manufacturing, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, Parker Engines, Keizer Wheels, DMI, Red Devil Brakes, Champion Oil, All Pro Cylinder Heads, Astro Titanium, and Hoosier Tire for their support in 2015.
