Callihoo Racing Race Report May 9, 2015 - Castrol Raceway
May 9th was our first race of the 2015 season. May 2nd we had a test and tune at Castrol Raceway and the car was near perfect so no real changes needed for the May 9th race.
We started the night in heat 1 - Started 3rd and finished 7th track was very rough and Wayne jumped the ruts in turn 4 and had to let off to avoid hitting the wall and fell back to 7th. Car was good, but track was rough and had engine running hot.
Before the main race we decided to change out the Radiator to help with the heating problem. We started 16th for the 25 lap feature race. Had a caution on lap 1 twice so had 2 complete restarts.
Wayne was able to pass a few cars and get up to 6th place and tried hard to get 5th but the track was just too slick in spots to get a good run, had 2 more caution flags and on the final yellow at lap 16 our car was started to heat up again on the caution laps. We restarted the race after the caution 6th with one lap car in front of us. Wayne was able to get by the lap car and just could not catch 5th place. So our CCR Motorsport engine finished a respectful 6th place being our best feature main race in our 2nd year in a sprint car. We were very pleased with the car. Congrats to our engine sponsor Chevy Goodhope of CCR Motorsport finishing 2nd in the main and winning his heat race. Having 2 CCR Motorsport cars in the top 6 was very satisfying. Currently we sit 6th in points at Castrol Raceway.
We had originally planned racing Central Alberta Raceway - Rimbey Alberta on May 29 -30th. Not sure if we will be running it yet as we need to work on our cooling issues before the car is on the track again. Next Sportsman Sprints race at Castrol Raceway is June 6. Thanks again to my crew Kelly Daniels, Emily Callihoo and Sonny Tonner. We are short of pit crew if anyone is interested in helping out in the pits please contact us at callihooracing@gmail.com
