[b Three $1500 to Win Features Highlight Illinois Triple Threat Weekend!]
[i (Bill W) September 9, 2009]
The Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders will compete in three big races in the “Land of Lincoln” this weekend! “Triple Threat Weekend” will feature three main events in three nights, with all paying $1,500 to the winners! The events start on Friday night at the Morgan County Speedway in Jacksonville, move to the Spoon River Speedway south of Canton on Saturday, and conclude on Sunday at the Quincy Raceways near Quincy.
Morgan County Speedway’s “Herb Barlow Memorial” is any open-wheel fan’s dream. The POWRi midgets will run a full program with the Sprint Invaders. Throw in the POWRi micros on the ¼ mile bullring, and you’ve got a tripleheader, all in one night! CJ Houseman picked up his first career sprint car win in Jacksonville in August. Pits open at 4, with hot laps beginning at 6, and racing to follow.
The “Tom Knowles Memorial” will be celebrating its 25th year on Saturday at the Spoon River Speedway. Speed freaks love the high-banked 3/8 mile oval, that often sees three and four-wide action in the event promoted by Manny Rockhold. The POWRi midgets will be back, of course, and you don’t want to miss that. Jordan Goldesberry won his first career feature with the Sprint Invaders at the event in 2009. Adult tickets are $20. Pits open at 4 p.m., with grandstands opening at 5 p.m. Racing will begin at 7 p.m.
The weekend concludes at the racy 3/8 mile Quincy Raceways on Sunday, and with some additional sponsorship, this event will also pay $1,500 to the winner. “Showtime” Kaley Gharst won a feature that saw six lead changes back in July at Quincy! Gharst took the lead and then went over the berm, only to reclaim it three laps later! Pit gates open at 4 p.m., with grandstands opening at 5 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled for 6 p.m. with racing to follow!
“Lil’ Dude” Bobby Mincer takes a slim seven point lead over “Flyin’” Ryan Jamison into the weekend, despite some heartbreak last Saturday night at the CJ Speedway in Columbus Junction, Iowa. Mincer led the distance before having his car let go on the final lap. He was able to coast to a sixth place finish. Joey Moughan, who is expected to make some noise in his home state this weekend, was able to become the 36th different feature winner in the history of the Sprint Invaders.
Some of the best sprint car drivers in the Midwest have inquired about this weekend’s events, so make sure you are there to see who may be in to challenge the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders!
