Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (May 12, 2015) – Derek Hagar is hungry for his first career Hooker Hood Classic victory.

It’s one of the marquee races at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., and has been circled on his calendar. The date comes this Saturday at the quarter-mile bullring, where Hagar has won five times since 2011.

“Hooker Hood is a legend around here,” he said. “To have an event like that, it’s pretty big and there’s a lot of history around here. Hooker drove my grandpa’s car back in the ‘70s. He was a wheel man. It’s pretty neat for everybody.”

Hagar claimed three victories at Riverside International Speedway last season and has recorded 10 top fives and 17 top 10s in 22 races at the track during the past four-plus years. However, a Hooker Hood Classic triumph has eluded him.

“I think last year it got rained out five or six times and then it happened on a week when I was out of town racing a 410,” he said. “Stormy Hood does a heck of a job promoting it. She’s the one who started the whole deal and after Hooker Hood passed away she kept it going in his memory. It’s getting bigger and bigger every year.”

Hagar has competed at the track once this year. He finished with a 16th-place result after being caught up in a crash during the Eagle Motorsports Rock ‘N Roll 50 Presented by MyRacePass main event.

“I think we had a pretty good car at the Rock ‘N Roll 50,” he said. “We just put ourselves behind the eight ball drawing an eight (in the feature redraw). You have to get a good draw and hope for the best.”

Hagar had two Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour events on his schedule rained out last weekend.
