Inside Line Promotions – PETALUMA, Calif. (May 11, 2015) – Dominic Scelzi powered to his best career result at Petaluma Speedway on Saturday with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series.

Scelzi’s third-place finish also marked his third consecutive podium and it places him tied for second place in the championship standings – only one point behind the leader.

“It was another good run,” he said. “Of course we wanted to win, but with the way we’ve been qualifying and the way the car has been we’re really happy with it. We’ve changed some things with our program and it’s made a big difference.”

Scelzi kicked off the event by qualifying a season-best second out of the 23 competitors.

“When you can qualify strong like that it’s a really good feeling,” he said. “It takes a lot of the pressure off the heat race.”

Scelzi then advanced from fourth to third place in a heat to lock himself into the dash.

“We drew the eight for the dash and then drove from eighth to fifth, which I thought was an impressive run,” he said. “Nobody was doing much passing in the dash.”

That started Scelzi on the inside of the third row for the 30-lap feature.

“I think I got up to second on Lap 8 and ran there until Lap 27,” he said. “I closed up on Bud (Kaeding) and was right on his bumper. We hit traffic the wrong way. I hit a hole in turns three and four that caused me to bounce. By the time I gathered myself up I was in third place. I feel like we had the fastest race car. We just didn’t hit lapped traffic the way we needed to.”

Scelzi’s third-place result gives him a lot of momentum entering this Saturday’s Chris and Brian Faria Memorial with the King of the West at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif.

“I’ve never had this strong of a start to the season,” he said. “We’ve never been as consistent as we have been these past three weeks. Our biggest goal is to qualify strong and to be there the last 10 laps. If we can do that I think we’ll have a shot to win in Tulare.”
