NEW CASTLE, Ind.—May 7, 2015— Tracy Hines has been part of some pretty historic events over the course of his career. He’ll be part of another one this weekend as the famed Eldora Speedway hosts the “Mother of All Sprint Car Weekends,” featuring both the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series and the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. The event will mark the first time ever the two series have competed at the same track on the same night.
The “Mother of Sprint Car Weekends” is set for Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. A full race program is on tap each night for both series. Hines will compete with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series.
“For sprint car fans, this is definitely the ultimate weekend at Eldora,” said Hines. “We are focused on our race, but having a winged car now, it will be a helpful to watch those cars as well when we can. It’s pretty cool that Eldora was able to put this all together. That’s the perfect place for an event of this magnitude.”
Last season at Eldora, Hines finished third in the spring race for the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series aboard The Carolina Nut Company DRC. During the Four-Crown Nationals weekend in September, the native of New Castle, Indiana, finished third with the Traxxas USAC National Sprint Car Series. Hines was fourth in the main event for the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series during the Four-Crown and finished eighth with the Honda USAC National Midget Series.
In his career at the high-banked, half-mile, Hines has 11 USAC wins, with nine of those coming in Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series competition. He scored his first victory at Eldora in 1996 with the Honda USAC National Midget Series.
“Eldora is a place I’ve had a fair amount of success at,” he said. “It’s a place you have to respect and know where the limit is when you are on the track. We ran well there last year in all three cars and it would be great to pick up another win there this weekend.”
Last weekend, Hines competed in the opening race of the season for the Traxxas USAC Silver Crown Series at Toledo Speedway in Ohio, where he finished ninth. He had to make a pit stop during the 100-lap race to replace a flat tire. The veteran driver also made his first winged sprint car start last Saturday night, racing at Fremont Speedway in Ohio. Hines finished second in his heat race and wound up 15th in the 30-lap main event, with a very strong field in attendance.
“We had some bad luck with a flat tire in the Silver Crown race, which was a bummer,” said Hines. “In the winged car, we were able to turn laps and finish the feature, which was the main goal. It’s going to be a learning process, but we had a good start and hopefully can keep building on that.”
Entering this weekend’s event at Eldora, Hines is seventh in the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car standings on the strength of seven top-10 finishes, of which three have been top-five performances.
Along with contesting the full slate for all three USAC national series, Hines will also compete in 410-winged sprint car races in the Midwest when his schedule permits.
