Tulsa OK (May 5, 2015) – After performing in front of a near full house last Saturday night at the Caney Valley Speedway, this week will see the winged sprint cars of the AmeriFlex Hose & Accessories / Oil Capitol Racing Series take their show to the Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada OK where the 7th Annual Harold Leep Jr. Memorial event will take place.
4-Time champion Jamie Passmore became the fourth winner in as many events last weekend with AmeriFlex / OCRS points leader Sean McClelland on his heels in second. All eyes will now turn to the Oklahoma Sports Park to see if a fifth straight winner for the touring warriors will emerge. The Leep Jr Memorial event is set to be the first of four visits to the speedy OSP oval in 2015.
The Harold Leep Jr. Memorial began in 2009 and Gary Owens of Pauls Valley OK is shooting for his third straight win in the event after winning last year and in 2013. Frank Dittman was the initial victor followed by Mike Goodman in 2010, Whit Gastineau in 2011 and Jamie Passmore in 2012.
NUTZ n’ BOLTZ:
Struttin’ – Jamie Passmore let everyone know he still is a force to deal with at Caney Valley by winning his first time out in 2015 after scoring a win in only 2 starts in 2014. Where has he been? Passmore’s children are involved in competition rodeo and he has been on the road supporting their efforts. We understand that several AmeriFlex / OCRS teams are taking up a collection to make sure the youngsters get the best horses money can buy so the Eagle chassis stays in its nest.
Homeless Native – 2014 AmeriFlex / OCRS champion Andrew Deal still is looking for a full-time ride but his temporary ride is doing him well. Deal finished third in his hometown of Caney Kansas in the Kelly & Laurie Fode number 7F machine. It is the best the 7F car has ever looked in competition, which leads those to appreciate the talent of Deal even more so.
Damn the Luck – Sheldon Barksdale was cruising along at Caney Valley in the top three in the main when he struck an infield tire. Barksdale still managed to hang on to remain in the second spot in the points chase with an eighth place finish. It’s all about “course management”.
Tough Crowd – The top six at Caney Valley were either AmeriFlex / OCRS feature winners this year or last season plus, with Passmore and McClelland going 1-2, they combine for 7 of the past 12 championships. Add seventh place finisher Brent Bates’ Creek County Championships and the top Caney Valley finishers were mighty tough.
Lurking In da’ Shadows – Mike Goodman recently posted on Facebook that the AM/PM team is working on motors to get the 3-time champion (2004, 05, 07) back into AmeriFlex / OCRS competition. There is no set date at this time for Goodman’s return to action. The day & night team leader Travis Jenkins, did compete at Caney Valley last Saturday. Welcome back TJ.
