Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (May 5, 2015) – Travis Rilat powered to a pair of podium finishes last weekend with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
Rilat garnered third-place results on Friday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, and on Saturday at Battleground Speedway to move himself into third in the championship standings – only 24 points out of the lead.
“Any time you can go out and run in the top three two nights in a row and not tear up any equipment that’s a successful endeavor,” he said. “We had a real good car all weekend.”
Rilat kicked off the doubleheader by advancing from fifth to third place during a heat race on Friday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park. That put him ninth in overall points, which was only one spot out of the feature redraw and started him on the inside of the fifth row for the main event.
“Any time you start beyond the third row it makes it tougher, especially when you’ve got fast cars in front of you,” he said. “That’d make all difference in the world to have a chance to start near the front by being in the redraw.”
Rilat picked up a half-dozen positions during the main event to earn his second podium of the season.
The weekend concluded on Saturday at Battleground Speedway, where Rilat finished where he started – third – in a heat race. That put him 10th in overall points and only two positions out of the feature redraw.
“The track was heavy to start with and hard to pass on in the heat,” he said. “That’s all we could do.”
Rilat maneuvered through the field during the main event to post his second straight podium result and his third in the last four races.
“The car was a little bit tight, but I could still maneuver from the top to the bottom,” he said. “The track was still racy. At the end of the day the top two had a little better cars than me.”
Rilat will return to competition with the ASCS Gulf South Region on May 22 at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas; May 23 at Shady Oaks Speedway in Goliad, Texas; and May 24 at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, for the 13th annual Memorial Day Classic.
