Dupo, IL (April 27, 2015) The days of being nearly guaranteed a midget A-main starting position are long gone and these days, making a POWRi A-main can be quite an accomplishment for anyone, especially a rookie candidate. Although only four POWRi national events have been held in the 2015 season, Kyle ended 2014 with an A-main start at the Mini-Mile in DuQuoin, Illinois back in December; and has now started 2015 with four straight A-main starts. The most recent was this past Friday night when the POWRi midgets invaded Jacksonville Speedway on a cold and windy night. Thirty cars signed in for Friday’s event, with multiple former USAC, POWRi, and BMARA champions in attendance.
Kyle started his night with a fifth place starting position in heat race number four. At the end of the tough heat, he also finished with a fifth place spot. Based on passing points, he then lined up third in the B-main, with only six out of fourteen cars making the transfer to the A feature. Utilizing both the cushion and bottom groove of the race track, Kyle was able to put his Boss Chassis wherever he needed to in order to stay up front. At the end of the event, which included a red flag for an upside down competitor, Kyle was able to hold on for the sixth and final transfer position. Starting deep in the A-feature field, Kyle unfortunately got caught a lap down when he got passed by the leaders and a caution came out. After the restart he raced for a few laps before pulling off the track so that he would not affect the outcome of the race lead and because he wasn’t able to race anyone for position.
Jacksonville was scheduled to be the first of a two night Central Illinois swing, however, Mother Nature won Saturday night at Macon Speedway. As it seems to do a lot on POWRi Macon race nights, heavy rain and cold temperatures forced the cancellation of day two of the doubleheader. The next races for the POWRi midgets are Friday, May 1st at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri; and Saturday, May 2nd at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri. This will be the only stop the midgets will make to each of these tracks this year, so if you are in the area, you should definitely come out and watch some great racing.
