CANEY, Kans. (May 2, 2015) - Jamie Passmore knows his way around the Caney Valley Speedway.
His last AmeriFlex Hose and Accessories / Oil Capital Racing Series victory came July 5, 2014 on the Caney quarter mile oval and Saturday Passmore backed it up with another victory to become the fourth AmeriFlex / OCRS winner in four events.
Passmore stalked race leader Sean McClelland then used lapped traffic on lap 19 to set up a turn four pass for the lead.
“When you are running second that is the best place to be when you have all those lapped cars,” Passmore said. “Sean (McClelland) kind of got hung up there and kind of let me by. That is the only way you are going to pass him.
“We got to those lapped cars and he had to go to the top or bottom. He chose the top and I chose the bottom and it just happened that my car got a hold and went on. I passed him on the top but it was the corner before when I got my momentum on him.”
Once in the lead Passmore kept his GAP Roofing sprinter in the low groove hoping that would protect his lead.
“I had to run the bottom because I knew he could not pass me on the top,” Passmore said of McClelland. “I knew I would hear him if he tried to pass me but I did not hear anybody.”
A lap 27 restart gave Passmore reason to worry that McClelland might make the same move on him and regain the lead
“You get nervous on those restarts because you don’t know if you are going to do the right thing,” he said.
However McClelland did not challenge and finished 1.6 seconds behind in second as the checkered flag waved.
“Jamie (Passmore) was just better then us,” McClelland said of losing the lead. “The car got a little free about halfway through. We were just junk from there on in.”
Defending AmeriFlex / OCRS champion Andrew Deal picked up a third place finish just four seconds behind the leader, Brian McClelland climbed from 10th starting to finish fourth and earn the Hard Charger honors, and Alex DeCamp was fifth.
The 30-lap main event opened with outside front row starter Sheldon Barksdale charging into the lead with McClelland and Passmore in tow. But his lead lasted only two laps before McClelland roared past. Barksdale held on to second till lap 12 when he gave up the spot to Passmore.
