McCarthy Auto Group KC Klassic Adds to Prestigious Kansas City History on May 7

Inside Line Promotions – OWASSO, Okla. (April 29, 2015) – The sprint car history in Kansas City is rich and storied.

Many legends of the sport cut their teeth in the region, which has slowed in stature during the past couple of decades.

“Back in the day with the Welds and everybody running, it was huge,” Missouri native Danny Lasoski said. “This area doesn’t have as much sprint car racing anymore.”

The excitement returns to the area on Thursday, May 7, when TBJ Promotions and RacinBoys will co-promote the McCarthy Auto Group KC Klassic, which is the first Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour race at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., since 2008 and only the third ever.

“I’m probably one of the only drivers that can say I raced at the old Lakeside Speedway as well,” Lasoski said. “The newer track was dirt, then pavement and now it’s back to dirt. I’ve raced on it when it was dirt and I’ve raced on it on pavement. I have a lot of laps on that track.”

Lasoski, who said he hasn’t won at the track since the early 1980s, is excited for the rare opportunity to race in front of family and friends at Lakeside Speedway – a 4/10-mile oval that is located a little less than an hour west of his shop.

“It doesn’t take much to get me motivated,” he said. “In our area there’s not a lot of sprint car tracks. Whenever you race in front of your buddies it just adds a little more pizazz to the event. I’m very much looking forward to going to Lakeside and hopefully bringing home the win.”

While the event brings prestigious racing back to the Kansas City area, it also falls on the first NASCAR weekend of the season at nearby Kansas Speedway.

“The history of sprint car racing in Kansas City is revered,” RacinBoys Co-Founder Scott Traylor said. “We’re all thrilled to be able to put on a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour race to give the fans a marquee event. It’s also great to have the NASCAR event only a few miles away that weekend so hopefully we can introduce sprint car racing to some pavement fans.”

Additionally, the Steve King Foundation will be at the track to raise awareness about its impact on the dirt racing community. Brett Moffitt, driver for the No. 34 NASCAR Sprint Cup team, will be signing autographs at the foundation merchandise trailer from approximately 7:30 to 8 p.m.

“We will have a lot of fan interaction throughout the McCarthy Auto Group KC Klassic,” TBJ Promotions Founder Tony Bruce Jr. said. “The racing will be top notch, but our focus is to make this an event from the time the fans pull up to the gates until they leave the facility.”
