Inside Line Promotions – DODGE CITY, Kan. (April 29, 2015) – Zach Blurton is hopeful his drawing skills improve because his racing has been on point this season.
Blurton kicked off last Saturday’s event at Dodge City Raceway Park by drawing a high number during the pill draw, which lined him up toward the back of a heat race.
“I need to draw better,” he said. “I’m just as fast as anybody. It’s just one of those things where I’ve drawn bad and the cars that go to the redraw are the winners of the heat races and the best in passing points. It’s just hard because you have to be so much faster than everybody else.”
Blurton advanced from seventh to fifth place in his heat race, but that was shy of earning him a spot in the feature redraw. It lined him up on the inside of the sixth row for the 20-lap main event.
“I should have had fourth in the heat race,” he said. “A car cut me off pretty bad going into turn one. It put me almost into the infield. That might have put us into the redraw.”
Blurton steadily advanced throughout the feature to garner a sixth-place result, which maintained his streak of earning a top 10 in every race this season.
“We were moving forward fast,” he said. “We were better than a sixth-place car. The track was a little rough. Sixth place isn’t bad for the cars we have to race and it’s not bad for where we’re starting at. It’s hard to run with the big wing on a 305. You have to be so much faster than someone to get around them. It gives me confidence, but I think we could be faster yet.”
Blurton will return to competition on May 9 at Dodge City Raceway Park with the URSS.
