Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (April 28, 2015) – There was no consolation when Travis Rilat made the main event during his first World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series race of the season last Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.
And certainly not after he was caught up in an opening-lap crash on the frontstretch while the green flag waved to start the Texas Outlaw Nationals.
“I don’t race as much as I used to, but I’m definitely not happy just being in the show,” he said. “I’d at least like to be competitive. I just didn’t have the car the way it needed in qualifying so that puts you in the back of the heat. There’s not a lot you can do from there unless you catch a couple of breaks.”
Rilat qualified 24th quickest and he finished where he started – eighth – during his heat race on the fast track. That relegated him to the Last Chance Showdown, where he advanced to a fifth-place result to transfer into the back of the main event.
“I think the track got better for the feature, but it was pretty abrasive at first,” he said. “It was chewing the tires off in the heats and the B Main. The car was better, but starting at the back was tough. Then we got into that wreck. It tore the top wing off and that was it. It’d be tough to advance much more than that so we called it a night.”
Rilat was credited with a 23rd-place result.
He will return to action this Friday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, and Saturday at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
“At Golden Triangle Raceway Park we’ve had limited success there, but I’d look for a good showing,” he said. “Battleground has been one of my favorites. We’ve won several of them over there. I don’t know if it just suits my style or what. I seem to favor those fast, high-speed tracks.”
Rilat won at both tracks last year and has a three-year streak of reaching Victory Lane at Battleground.
