Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (April 28, 2015) – Derek Hagar heads into this Saturday’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event extra confident.
Despite a myriad of rainouts this season, including one last weekend in Tennessee, Hagar feels he has a great chance to defend his Eagle Motorsports Rock ‘N Roll 50 Presented by MyRacePass title on Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark.
“Riverside hasn’t got to race any this year so the race track will be challenging,” he said. “This gumbo is pretty soft so I’m looking for to it being pretty rough this weekend. It’s not my liking, but we’ve done well on tracks that have been rough and we’ve been terrible on tracks that have been rough. It’s one of those deals we have to hope for a good night and make the best of it.
“The track has changed a little bit since the guy who has it bought it in 2006 or 2007. The grooves have changed and the way you have to drive the race track has changed. I won’t let anyone know my secrets, but I think we have something figured out.”
Hagar won three of his six races at the bullring last season and has five victories during his last 19 races there. He also has earned 10 top fives and 17 top 10s in his 21 races at Riverside International Speedway since 2011.
“We’ve had pretty good success at that track,” he said. “It seems like we’ve shined with their special shows so I don’t see why this weekend will be any different. Tony Bruce Jr. and his TBJ Promotions crew stepped up again this year and brought another great trophy so hopefully we can hang it on the side of the wall next to last year’s.”
Hagar outlasted fellow Arkansas native Tim Crawley during an epic Rock ‘N Roll 50 last season to garner the unique custom guitar. It marked Hagar’s first career Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour win as well.
“We’re going to go out there and do what we have to do to win the race,” he said. “It’s our home crowd and I’m out there to do the best I can, but also to please them, too. We’re going to go out there with nothing to lose and go for the win.”
