Derek Schuett earns a podium finish in his first race in 18 months

Dupo, IL (April 21, 2015) When Derek Schuett decided to step away from the driver's seat in October 2013, he and his Schuett Racing team were stuck in a rut and not having a whole lot of fun. After weeks of struggling with handling and motor issues, racing had just started to take its toll on the young driver. During his 18 month hiatus, Derek has continued to go racing to support his younger brother Kyle, as he made his transition from micros to midget racing. This past weekend, however, it was Kyle who was supporting Derek as he made his way back on the race track.

Friday night, Derek and his family headed to Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Illinois for a Boss series micro race. Thirty one micros filled the pits, resulting in four heat races, a B-main, and several cars going home without making the A-main event. Derek had a great run in his heat race which led him to an inside front row starting position; next to his brother-in-law, Austin Brown. Derek was able to lead a large portion of the 15 lap event, until being overtaken by eventual winner, Chris Cochran and veteran driver, Brown. In his first night back in a race car since October 2013, Derek came home with a third place A-main finish and a smile on his face.

On Saturday night, the team headed to Highland Speedway for another night of micro racing. In heat race action, Derek was able to hold off former Highland Speedway champion Carlee Gress and several other experienced drivers to earn a second place finish. This resulted in him lining up third for the A-main event. After a hard fought race, Derek crossed the finish line in seventh place, earning his second top ten finish in as many races.

With Derek’s wife, Lindsey being a full-time official with the POWRi series and his brother chasing the 2015 midget division Rookie of the Year title, Derek’s future racing schedule is unknown. One thing is for certain though, he will be back behind the wheel of the number ?#?19K? Boss Chassis more times this year; and the indicators from this past weekend show that he will likely have that car back up front very soon.
