Inside Line Promotions – ORRVILLE, Ohio (April 20, 2015) – Ryan Smith knew there’d be ups and downs when he ventured to Ohio for UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions competition.

The first race was an up – a huge up as he won the first All Star points race of the year. However, last Saturday at Wayne County Speedway was a learning experience.

“Dale Blaney and a bunch of guys came over and talked to me about it,” he said. “Dale said a place like this takes two or three times of running to get it. The next time we go back there we’ll know what to expect.”

Smith kicked off his first career race at Wayne County Speedway by qualifying eighth quickest of his group.

“On the first lap I entered a car width and a half too low and I slid up to it,” he said. “I knew that lap was slow. The second lap I entered a lot closer, but it wasn’t on the cushion.”

Smith then rallied from eighth to fifth place in a heat race to lock himself into the main event, which he started 15th.

“It was definitely a learning experience,” he said. “The track was a type I’ve never been on. It was dusty and dark. Where you had to run was tough. There was a curb on the fence and that’s what I need to work on. I got better as the night went on.”

Smith picked up a couple of positions before he was spun midway through the main event. He kept the car going, but lost several spots before ending with a 17th-place result.

Sunday’s All Star event at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pa., was rained out.

Smith, who ranks seventh in the championship standings, welcomes the series to a pair of tracks he is more familiar with this weekend. He will race with the All Star Circuit of Champions on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and on Saturday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa.
