Mother Nature Sets Up Bonus Racing Action Next Saturday at DCRP

Mother Nature threatened throughout Saturday night’s entire season opening tilt at Dodge City Raceway Park.

With threatening dark skies to the west as the green flag flew on the night’s first Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Car heat race to kick off then night, the night was in jeopardy throughout.

Dodging the inclement weather most of the night, it wasn’t until the night’s final feature race was set to roll out that Mother Nature finally unleased her wrath with storms hitting the 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas.

The upside is that four of five divisions were able to complete their opening night festivities.

Now, the upside for the fans is that there will be some bonus action when round two of championship chase action takes place at Dodge City Raceway Park next Saturday night, April 25.

In addition to a full card of DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks, the night will begin with the IMCA Modified “A” Main postponed from this past Saturday night, thus making for twin Modified main events on April 25.

Twenty-three IMCA Modifieds were set to battle it out in Saturday’s nightcap with Joel Allen and reigning track champion Austin Allen slated to lead the way to the green flag from the front row. Only those 23 will be permitted to take part in the makeup feature on April 25 that kicks off the evening. Everyone, including all newcomers, will be eligible to take part in the rest of the evening’s events.

While the suspense continues to build to determine the outcome of the season-opening IMCA Modified feature event, other season-opening winners reached checkered flags on Saturday night.

Ty Williams made a late move around Brian Herbert to win the inaugural Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Car feature event, besting a strong field of 29 entries.

While Williams took Sprint Car honors, Jeremy Sigler knocked down his first IMCA Sport Modified win, Michael Pepper bested the IMCA Stock Cars and Cody Davis topped the IMCA Hobby Stocks. Trophy presentations for each of those four winners will take place during the April 25 card.

General admission tickets to the Saturday, April 25, championship chase card that also includes the April 11 IMCA Modified feature are just $10, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit admission is $30.

The 2015 slate of events at Dodge City Raceway Park includes 15 nights of competition with a number of special events along the way, highlighted by the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Boothill Showdown on July 3-4.
