Covington Comes Home 6th And 7th During Last Weekend's Regional Action

(Photo Credit-Brandon Young) Covington Motorsports- GLENPOOL, Ok. (April 15, 2015) Matt Covington had a pair of solid nights during this past weekend with the ASCS Red River Region. Matt was able to pick up a 6th place finish on Friday at Creek County Speedway, and a 7th place finish on Saturday at Super Bowl Speedway in Texas.

On Friday night Matt and the team took on the first night of the Red River Region double header weekend.

After a mid-pack draw Covington would finish third in the heat after starting fourth. Matt would line up in the 8th starting position after the redraw for the feature. In the feature Matt was able to battle inside the top-5 most of the race before losing a spot after a restart in the closing laps to come home sixth at the checkers.

Saturday night would have Covington and the crew prepping the car before making a trip to Texas and the Super Bowl Speedway for another night of ASCS Regional action.

After the draw Matt would find himself with the pole starting spot in the night’s fourth heat race. The heat race would provide the night’s first challenge as Covington would get tagged and spun out in the early laps of the heat. Matt did what he could to charge back to the front after the restart and salvage as many points as possible with a 3rd place finish.

Matt would find himself lining up in the Eighth row of the feature after the misfortune in the heat. At the drop of the green Covington started his charge toward the front trying to run down the lead pack. Matt was able to pick off cars one by one with laps continuing to clicked away in the 25-lap feature. With a handful of laps remaining Covington had solidly work himself into the top-10 from the 16th starting position. As the laps ran out, Matt would ultimately have to settle for the seventh finishing position at the drop of the checkers to cap off the double header regional weekend.

“This past weekend was a bit frustrating for me, but all in all it was a solid showing for our team,” stated Covington. “We had a decent night Friday and were able to go forward in the heat and feature but I would of liked to finish better than we did to be honest. Saturday was tuff for me because anytime you draw the pole for the heat you want to capitalize, but sometimes things out of your control hamper the results sometimes. The heat incident put us in the back of the feature and it was just hard to make up all those spots. But we still need to be proud of the effort and I would just like to thank my crew and all our supporters for giving us the chance to have such a positive overall weekend. All we can do is keep plugging away and working hard at it and see if we can’t go to Moberly this weekend and get us a win or at least a solid top-5 National finish”
